Backstory: In a content meeting, I pitched the idea to create this type of video for World Emoji Day. The digital team approved and asked, " what day is it on this year?" Turned out that it was that very same day.  I found the highlight from various angles, put together the whole video sequence, filmed myself doing the Animojis, then put it all together in a total of 6 hours. I'm very proud of this project because it was completely self-initiated and I completed the project on my own and it became the King's most successful piece of content to this date.

Date Created: 5.9.19

Backstory: Ever since seeing some of these types of art installations as a kid, I knew that I always wanted to create one of my own. I had this specific idea in my head, but never had the skills to properly execute my idea. Over the course of 2 months, I taught myself more of Adobe After Effects and how to use 3D cameras and place objects in 3D space and eventually got skilled enough to be able to pull-off my most complex project yet. It has always been a dream of mine to work for Nike and I hope this creation can help me be noticed and eventually land a job there someday.

Important Details:

  • Incorporated nearly every single NikeID customizable shoe (30+) available on their website at time of creation.

GOOGLE MAPS GAMEDAY FLYOVER

GoDucks Motion Graphic

Backstory: Every week, I am in charge of creating game day graphics for various sports. The direction given to me is simply, "Make a game day graphic." with no specific details. I am given complete creative freedom as long as it aligns with our brand. I viewed a tutorial by Andreas Hem on YouTube and wanted to see if I could make something similar, but with my own twist. I am very proud of how this one turned out and I think it shows my ability to quickly learn new skills. I was asked to create something the night before and so I stayed up all night learning how to create this fine masterpiece so that I could submit it in the morning.

Backstory: During the spring of 2019, Boras Corporation reached out to me to revitalize and strengthen their public and internal branding. This included creating a multitude of motion graphics that were mostly used internally for recruiting. However, this piece was also publicly released on IG. They were looking for a unique way to highlight all of their All-Stars individually, but at the same time illustrate the vast total number of All-Stars they represent. With that, as a starting point, I took inspiration from an everyday baseball starting lineup graphic on TV and transformed it into a 3D space.

Important Details:

  • The Boras Corp logo morphs into Progressive Field silhouette, host of the 2019 MLB All-Star game.

  • Each player card features information like jersey #, position, and # of All-Star appearances.

GLOVE GAMEDAY REVEAL

Type of Work: Unpaid Internship

Date Created: 12.29.19

Backstory: For the Red Box Bowl,I was tasked with creating our gameday graphic, along with other marketing collateral for the game. Normally, our creative director would create the football gameday graphic each week, but after he took a new job, I took on this role.   With this opportunity I knew that I really wanted to push myself creatively. Our videographers provided great footage of the football gloves saying "OREGON," and I figured out how to remove the initial yellow text, and then how to motion track and mask the footage in order to add in the word "GAMEDAY" and the logo matchup. This is one of the more complex projects I've taken on, and I'm very proud of how it turned out!

ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN

NikeID Motion Graphic

Client: NikeID

Distribution: @MarkNelsonMedia Twitter

Type of Work: Personal Work

Date Created: 3.3.19

Backstory: This was a really challenging project because it was a combination of both heavy Photoshop and After Effects work. I started in photoshop creating the entire scene including the moon terrain and Vapormax footprint. I used reference photos of the Apollo 11 footprints when recreating the texture and appearance of the Nike shoe. Once I was happy with the look of everything, I imported it into After Effects and started to animate different components. It was challenging to make a convincing footprint animation, but after hours of tinkering, I finally was able to make it work!

Important Details:

  • The Nike Air Vapormax shoe footprint is embedded into the moon's ground.

  • The flag waves, earth rotates.

2019 NCAA TF CHAMPS GRAPHIC

Date Created: 5.30.19

Backstory: For the 2019 NCAA Track & Field Championships, we had lots of athletes competing. For those who had a chance at winning the national championship, we wanted to do something special creatively. Working with Josh Phillips and our T&F SID, we identified 11 different athletes to film. For each athlete, I directed and filmed 3 different camera movements:

1. 360 degree pull away (reversed in post to rack-focus)

2. Side-to-side pan

3. low-to-ground walk up

As we approached competition, I prepared graphics like the one displayed here. Other creative was produced for our Track and Field account using the 360 degree pans.

Unfortunately, our athletes fell just short of a national championship  with three taking second place. So none of these pieces were released to the public. However, I wanted to share this piece because I'm proud of the creative direction I had, the opportunity to film the shots, and the ability to prepare graphics ahead of time to the high degree of quality and quantity.

Important Details:

  • I directed and filmed this footage using a DJI gimble.

  • Various 3D tracked elements throughout each video; total of 6 videos prepared.

RED BOX BOWL LIGHT SHOW

GoDucks Motion Graphic

Type of Work: Unpaid Internship

Date Created: 12.31.18

Backstory: For the Red Box Bowl, I was tasked with creating a motion graphic that would be posted right at kickoff. Going through the footage our videographer captured, I saw another opportunity to push myself creatively and have the camera push through glowing triangles.  It took me about five hours to learn how to place the triangles in 3D space and to rotoscope each triangle. To finish it off, I color graded the footage and added sound effects and text. Creating content for our bowl game was a great experience and I was able to really level up my creative skills and finished feeling confident that I could take on more complex projects in the future.

Date Created: 3.16.19

Backstory: As our men's  basketball team entered the PAC-12 championships in Las Vegas, they were a 6th seed. As the team continued to win and progress to make their run through the tournament, it really felt like our team was taking over Vegas and shocking the basketball world with our strong play on the court. I was tasked with leading the charge on a championship win graphic for the potential win. In order to get the project completed in 5 hours, I worked with a fellow motion designer, Duncan Boone, to create all the sideboard animations. Then, I placed all the animations over the top of all the MGM Grand billboards and signage. Finally, I utilized a camera to move throughout the scene in order to bring individual attention to all of the details.

Important Details:

  • Every single billboard of the MGM Grand has a unique image, motion graphic, or design element to reinforce our Oregon Basketball takeover of Vegas.

SUPER MARIO NBA GAUNTLET

Sacramento Kings Motion Graphic

Client: Sacramento Kings

Type of Work: Paid

Date Created: 8.18.19

Backstory: The digital team at the Kings is as great as they are because they are always keeping on top of the latest trends and popular content circulating the internet. In this case, they had their own ideas about how they could spin the original video and create a new fun, and engaging commentary. I proposed making every obstacle an NBA logo and it turns out that they were thinking the same thing, so we rolled with the concept.

Important Details:

  • 40+ motion tracked logos throughout the entire piece.

  • Recreated and extended the Super Mario video animation to have the character enter the Kings-branded castle.
